2nd generation

the tl;dr : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Name_Is_Khan#Newark_Airport_incident

The 1960s Civil Rights movement was pretty much run by young people (all revolutions are, aren't they?). They grew up being told to be polite to the white man. Always address him as "sir", always keep your hands where they can be seen, etc. In short, this is probably why Henry Louis Gates Jr. caused as much trouble as he did. He was the 2nd generation and he wasn't going to take that crap.

There's a lot of 2nd generation running around these days. In an incident pretty similar to the Gates one (but for Indians) Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan was stopped and taken in for questioning at a US airport... he was in America to make a movie about post 9-11 racial profiling. Other east-asians being held in the questioning room were even asking him for autographs. Cue protests.
